Tes Idées
We are the five members of EIS Road Safety Team: Aoi, Laraib, Odeta, Una and Taeeun. Our school is situated in a crowded area of Moscow city, with heavy traffic. We realised that our area has some serious problems regarding road safety. So, we decided to make some improvements; we tried our best to raise people’s awareness of road safety around our school in the Novogireevo district. We especially focused on seat belts and speed limits. At the start it was bit hard for all of us to choose a topic and think about how we were going to begin.
But as we started to work on our project, we realised it was important to tell people about the importance of seatbelts; we also learned how many people are injured or die every year because of road accidents. The numbers were higher than we expected so we wanted to work on this project and really make a difference, at least in our school area, to make sure that we could be safe on the roads and around our school.
Did you know that about 30,000 people die every year in road accidents in Russia alone? By working on this project we thought we could make local people aware of the statistics and persuade them to drive more carefully, especially around schools, and to wear seatbelts.
Tes initiatives
We made questionnaires and gave them out to people living in the Novogireevo district. We asked a total of sixteen people. The questionnaires were made in both English and Russian. We then developed statistics from the questionnaires. We also made leaflets to inform people about the importance of seat belts and information about road accidents. The leaflets were made to persuade people to wear seat belts and to make them aware of how many deaths and injuries are caused by road accidents. We translated the leaflets into Russian to give to Russian people who do not speak English.
We also gave an assembly presentation to the primary and the secondary students. They seemed very interested in it and asked various questions about road safety. We also created a Facebook Page for our road safety project. It’s called the EIS Road Safety Team.
Traffic accidents happen numerous times every day all over the world and huge numbers of people die as a consequence of actions which they think are not important. Small and simple actions may affect your life and other people’s lives too. Not wearing a seat belt can cost your or another person’s life.
Hopefully, we have raised awareness of some people living in the Novogireevo area about road safety. We hope that people living in the Novogireevo district will think about their actions, wear a seat belt and will not drive over the speed limit. Driving over the speed limit in a school area can be very dangerous and we hope to see a difference.
Pie charts related to the questionnaire (Information about the pie charts are attached as images):
1st pie chart: The first question was “How often do you not bother wearing a seatbelt?” As you can see, most of the people we asked do not bother wearing a seat belt.
2nd pie chart: The second was “Seatbelts are not necessary if you drive carefully.” Most of the people strongly disagree.
3rd pie chart: The third question asked if: “Seat belts can be dangerous.” Most of the people we asked disagree.
