Our team consists of students of physics, chemistry, and biology in a group. We have seen that people often cannot see the speed breaker while they are driving a vehicle due to absence or faded white paints. We came across an interesting solution to overcome this problem, using phosphorescent paint, paint that glows in the dark, that would make more visible the signboards and markings on the road.
It is evident that in our city of dreams Mumbai that people are always in a hurry and time is money for them. There is always a rush on roads and speed is the common mantra for every Mumbaikar. We have seen that people often cannot see the speed breaker while they are driving a vehicle due to absence or faded white paints and when they encounter speed breaker all of a sudden, they lose control of the vehicle for a moment and therefore of the path taken by the car. This usually happens at night, when it is dark. This momentary loss of control can cause a car accident and the pedestrians walking across the street might be the victims of the accident. Also, there is damage to the tires and the dividers on the roads.
We came across an interesting solution to overcome this problem. Using Phosphorescent paint, paint that glows in the dark, we can avoid these problems. All the signboards and the markings on the road should be done using this paint.
GENERATE IDEAS FOR GENERATIONS FOR A SAFE LIVING PLACE.
We colored a frame with glowing paint and we could see it glowing for a long time.
The best part about glowing paint is that, when exposed to sunlight or any light, it glows even brighter in the dark / night time.
We even approached the Local Municipal heads to talk about this. They liked our idea and have asked to publish a paper and submit it to them as well.
We are trying the same paint in the Physics lab for the fire safety as well.
This project has profited to all of us significantly as we had to accomplish various tasks and processes, such as many brainstorming sessions and discussions in our group, gaining insights from students with different expertises. Besides the opportunity to reflect on problems regarding road safety that affect all of us, to execute our project we learned how to solder, we acquired additional knowledge of physics and the economics behind energy production and delivery. Furthermore, our social skills also improved due to frequent communication with people from various organizations.
