In this project, two students from the final year of secondary school studied the cycle paths in our city and developed a plan to improve them. Furthermore they researched how to increase bicycle use among our school students.

The ideas

In the classroom we did brainstorming sessions where our students came up with several ideas on how to improve the use of the bicycle in our city and at our school. Some of the ideas were on pedestrian safety, improving the use of the bicycle among students, the way cars and bikes have to share the same road, installing bike racks at our school, etc.

The initiatives

From all the ideas that we had, we finally decided to work on improving the usefulness of the cycle paths in our city and increasing the use of the bicycle among students. We studied the actual state of cycle paths and proposed alternatives to make them more efficient, developing sketch-up 3D models to show the solutions that we arrived at and presented everything to our colleagues. To work on increasing the use of the bike among students we did an online survey and proposed a bike rack at our school to facilitate the use of the bike among students. All of our proposals were shown to the head teachers at the school.
