Our idea to help fight against global warming was through the project we named Mobiride. This project aims to use less cars in Itaipu Technological Park (PTI), giving a ride to the largest possible number of people on the way, thus reducing the large traffic in the main avenues at peak times and in counterpart the reduction of pollutants

The ideas

There are many things we must do to help the environment, and the way we live not only should but must contribute. Many ideas can come to mind, but we also face the challenge of putting them into practice, or impacting the environment in which we live, so that everyone could be part of the same goal.

Thinking about it, we decided to start this project in the environment in which we are inserted, the Itaipu Technological Park, as we believe that small positive actions can cause great positive impacts. Itaipu offers transportation from the Itaipu barrier to the working/studying place, however not all of them use this benefit.

We started by counting the number of vehicules parked at PTI´s parking lot, and check the cars coming and going and how many people were leaving or arriving in each car. We could see that daily there are more than 500 hundred cars coming in. Noticing the amount of cars that go to PTI every day, we realize that not only is a high number, but also the amount of people inside each car is small. Perhaps one of the reasons for choosing the car and not the collective bus is the comfort and also the low effectiveness of public transportation in Foz do Iguaçu, as crowded buses, and schedules gaps in between very big.

Thinking of the current great environmental damage being caused by the amount of pollutant gases thrown into the atmosphere through automobiles, we were moved to make use of creativity, joining sustainability and urban mobility to solve one of these global problems that we face today. Our idea to help fight against global warming was through the project we named Mobiride.

The initiatives

This project aims to use less cars in Itaipu Technological Park (PTI), giving a ride to the largest possible number of people on the way, thus reducing the large traffic in the main avenues at peak times and in counterpart the reduction of pollutants. We believe that through these small attitudes we can collaborate so that the negative impact we cause every day through our daily tasks, are smaller. We even found data from a similar project initiated by the PTI together with the city hall, about the need for adequate mobility to our city, which could encourage people use more public transportation. Meanwhile we can start off through this small step and positive action, by reducing now this number.

Our attitude will help us not only reduce the emission of toxic gases, but also to reduce traffic on our main roads, reducing the number of accidents, since the large amount of cars in the city of Foz do Iguaçu is causing many accidents and taking away many lives. We have about 1,500 accidents caused by automobiles per year and with the reduction of movement in the roads, this number will be reduced. Also the parking difficulty at PTI will be eased, as we are going to hold less cars. With the solidarity car ride, we will facilitate this setback and have personal financial benefit, because with the carpool, rather than having to pay the total expenses for the locomotion to work and / or study environment, dividing with one or more 4 friends who also make use of your vehicle, this value can be divided, thus providing a considerably lower monthly expense. It will be a win-win action. We take care of the environment, improve mobility in the city, we get rid of the parking spot problem, make new friends and save some Money.

Our campaign was to spread the word around PTI and talk to teachers, employees, students and talk to them about the environmental problems and our project, so everybody could ponder their actions towards the environment, and we gave them a leaflet with the information and a QR code to join the whatsapp Mobiride group. This group is for everyone who would like to share their cars or would like a ride.

We also have posters through out the campus explaining the project and the QR code to join the group.

We had also sent our informative to Itaipu´s communication in order to publish it, however we still didn´t have the chance to get the approval.
