Our main idea was to show how important it is to have education and knowledge about safety, and to know and update signals in our city. We created a PowerPoint presentation to share this information.
Our team was inspired by our city and started by doing some research. We found out that the government was about to publish a basic guide for road safety that would be available for secondary students. In a group discussion, we identified the following problems in Hermosillo: driving under the influence of alcohol, not obeying the traffic signals or laws ( excessive speed is an example of this), not knowing the pedestrian security road signs, driving while using a cell phone or while being occupied with something else (distractions are lethal in Hermosillo). We created a survey with four questions to use with drivers, and the results showed us that alcohol consumption, cell phone use while driving and disobedience of traffic rules were very real problems.
We decided to lead a campaign at our school. We prepared PowerPoint presentations explaining the road signs with suggestions and advise that we all should follow, which we shared in different classes. With our action we believe we helped high school students to become more aware and careful as road users.
